Energy Star® Windows Program

The Energy Star Windows Program was started back in 1992 by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as a labelling program. Originally it was used on computer monitors and computers, but soon started to expand and eventually they merged with the US Department of Energy. By 1996, the Energy Star® Program was labelling many home improvement items, including doors, skylights and replacement windows.

Energy Efficient Windows

The Energy Star® Program allows homeowners a way to find energy efficient replacement windows for their homes. In order to qualify, replacement windows must meet certain performance numbers or ratings that will vary based on what part of the country you live in. It's pretty easy to know whether the windows qualify, they will carry the Energy Star label. Windows that carry the label offer homeowners two distinct advantages. The first is increased energy efficiency that can save homeowners a good chunk of change over the life of the windows. The second is a tax rebate per window that helps to defray the original cost of the windows.
