You Are Here » Home » Installation Guide » Types Of Window Installation Types Of Window InstallationThere are various types of window installation available to choose from, varying in price and broken into categories. There are a choice of options available when it comes to replacement windows, which include full-frame, standard, pocket and insert. We've also included installation for bay and egress windows, as well as for new construction. Pocket Insert Window InstallationPocket installation is the cheapest and easiest installation when it comes to windows. They can cost anywhere from $50 to $100 per window. These insert windows, often referred to as pockets come complete with frame and are made ready to install. The insert must be placed inside the frame, levelled, shimmed and secured using predrilled holes. Insulation may be used around the edges, although often the window fits snugly in the opening and does not require any additional foam or traditional insulation. The installer then caulks and seals the window on the inside and outside. Standard InstallationStandard installation is a more detailed process than pocket inserts. While it is often completed following the same steps as a pocket insert, it also includes removing and replacing the sills, if needed. Depending on the condition of the jambs and frame, it may require some additional work to ensure they are in good condition before inserting the new replacement window. Full Frame InstallationFull frame installation is used when there is damage to the jambs and sills and requires the entire window, jamb and frame to be removed and then replaced. This can cost anywhere from $175 to $250 per opening. Bay Window InstallationBay windows installation can cost between $700 and $1,000 per opening. When considering custom bay windows, they can cost anywhere up to $2,000 or more. Often the price increases as the opening is resized to make space for the new bay window, as this requires a large amount of prep work. Egress Window InstallationEgress windows are found in basements and need to meet strict code requirements. Entire egress basement projects range in price from $500 to $2,500. This price is to ensure the window meets the code requirements, but it does not include the cost of the window itself, which can be anywhere from $300 to $1,000 depending on whether a double hung or casement is chosen. New Construction InstallationNew construction installation is the name given to windows which are being installed on a new building project, such as a brand new property or an addition to an existing property. Often they are quite similar to a full frame replacement with a few little differences. New windows have a nailing flange, this is an important element to ensure the window is held in place within the opening. This can cost anywhere from $300 to $450 per opening.
